I am writing to share some wonderful news: King's Compounding Pharmacy (formerly Gary King Pharmacy) has just earned the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board’s new Seal of Accreditation for meeting the compounding pharmacy industry’s highest quality and safety standards.
The PCAB® Seal of Accreditation is a new system of standards created by the PCAB, a board composed of the leading experts in the compounding pharmacy field today. Our new accreditation status as a PCAB Accredited for sterile and non-sterile compounding pharmacy lets you know that King's Compounding Pharmacy ranks among the best in the nation for quality and safety. The time and financial commitment to obtain this award; in addition to the dedication of space for a lab, the equipment and the thousands of dollars spent on QA testing and shows our dedication to protecting our patients by practicing safe, high-quality compounding.
To earn the designation PCAB Accredited compounding pharmacy, we completed an extensive application that was reviewed by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board. Our compounding policies and procedures were then reviewed by professionals. Next, we opened our doors for an extensive on-site inspection led by compounding experts. Only when these stringent evaluations were completed did the PCAB officially grant us the PCAB Seal of Accreditation.
We are honored to be among the 10th in the nation to earn this new accreditation, as it sets us apart from other compounding pharmacies. It confirms our commitment to providing safe, personalized solutions that meet the medical needs of our patients and the needs of the healthcare providers in our community such as you who rely on us for these specialized medicines.
With the estimated 30 million to 40 million prescriptions that are compounded each year, there has been a need for an enhanced, profession-wide system of standards by which each compounding pharmacy can test its quality processes. While as you know, compounding pharmacy is regulated by the state, PCAB Accreditation is an even more comprehensive way to ensure a compounding pharmacy has undergone the compounding pharmacy profession’s most rigorous review and inspection measures.
This brings me to my next important issue. For reasons of their own; certain industries, federal agencies and legislators are trying to restrict your ability to prescribe compounded prescriptions. A bill is being proposed to put compounding pharmacies under the jurisdiction of the FDA instead of our State Boards of Pharmacy. Our Texas Board is in the process of rewriting compounding rules which will adequately regulate this practice without federal government intervention.
